Post-Explant Surgery Recovery Tools
-
- Maintain an elevated position in bed while you recover with THIS Bed Wedge Pillow Set that is cooling and relieves pressure while allowing you to stay in an elevated position per your surgeons post-op instructions. You can adjust it to sit in bed and sleep comfortably.
- Stay cozy and comfy in THESE shearling slippers.
- Reduce pain and swelling with THESE small reusable icepacks and THESE larger reusable ice packs.
- Make it easy for yourself to get dressed and undressed and access your surgical bra and bandages with THESE camisoles.
- Keeping the bowels moving: my preference for this is Bowel Mover
- Hydration with the purest water you have access to (not alkaline water!) – ideally distilled but second best is natural spring water. Hydrogen Water is also excellent for not only hydrating the cells, but also acts as a powerful free radical scavenger to reduce oxidative stress and inflammation, which is important for healing post-explant.
- Nutrient rich diet including things like pasture-raised red meat, pasture-raised and organic eggs (especially yolks), steamed cruciferous veggies, healthy fats, increased protein consumption, avoid inflammatory foods (seed/vegetable oils, refined carbs/sugar, processed foods, vegan imitation foods, etc.) – all if tolerated of course. Consider my favorite bone broth as a way to get in some extra protein and healing nutrients.
- Supporting digestion and absorption of nutrients from food with a really good digestive enzyme supplement, taken at the stat of each meal.
- Extra minerals to help support your body’s daily micronutrient needs for optimal cognitive function, energy production, immune function, mental clarity, nervous system support – and to enhance your overall feeling of well-being. I’ve linked my favorite minerals above (available in my store) – Each capsule provides minerals derived from fulvic acid, which is sourced from the soil and decomposed plant life. Fulvic acids naturally contain trace minerals and are typically easier for the body to digest, absorb, and utilize. In addition to their trace mineral content, fulvic acids help nourish the gut microbiome, support gut function, and may help assist nutrient absorption from other foods and supplements.
- Restorative sleep: Sleep is crucial for healing. There are many ways to support sleep. I’m going to list a few of my favorite ways here. First, we need complete darkness because any amount of light we’re exposed to at night may shut down melatonin production and stimulate cortisol (stress hormone) production. My favorite sleep mask is from Drowsy. Secondly, melatonin production can be impaired because at least 400x more melatonin in the gastrointestinal tract than in the pineal gland, and if there is leaky gut or gut disfunction, your melatonin levels will likely not be optimal for restorative sleep. This has significant impact on health in the long-run. My favorite way to support melatonin/sleep is a product called DREM. It contains key amounts of neurotransmitter and hormone support – tryptophan, melatonin, GABA – and herbs to comprehensively support relaxation and sleep.
- Balancing the immune system: many of us who have had breast implants deal with autoimmunity and an imbalanced immune system. One tool that I have found helpful to support a more balanced immune system and healing from the inside out is Nano Ojas Everyday Wellness Spray. This is the holy grail of immune system support and is a highly bioavailable, food-based formula scientifically developed to help the body restore key biological functions by activating the body’s innate immune system. It supports things like immune function, energy production, pain management, cellular function, metabolism, healthy aging and vitality, inflammation, cardiovascular health, antioxidation, and is antimicrobial while also supporting the body’s natural detoxification processes. It is gentle enough to be used after explant surgery.
- Managing pain and swelling: Immediately after explant surgery, pain and swelling can be the main issues you’re focused on and a great way to naturally address this is with the use of Bromelain. Studies show that Bromelain may reduce swelling, bruising, healing time, and pain after surgery and physical injuries. It can be taken as 1 capsule up to 4 times daily.
- Supporting the microbiome: One of my favorite ways to support the microbiome and reconditioning the gut is with a probiotic called MegaSporeBiotic, which is a 100% spore-based, broad-spectrum probiotic shown to maintain healthy gut barrier function. This unique all-spore formula effectively RECONDITIONS the gut by promoting microbial diversity and maintaining key health-promoting, commensal gut bacteria. Please keep in mind that this is a STRONG and POWERFUL probiotic so please follow dosing instructions on the bottle. Sometimes people need to go low and slow with this one. A second probiotic that is excellent is RestorFlora, which was designed to restore the microbiome and help to prevent candida overgrowth after antibiotic use. I generally feel that going through one bottle of this is sufficient, however, I would not start it until you’re at the therapeutic dose of MegaSporeBiotic, which is 2 capsules daily. THEN you can add in RestorFlora for about a month.
- Supporting the skin barrier and healing the incisions + improving scar appearance: This is another common question I get – what’s the best way to treat scars? My personal favorite is a completely natural plant-based product called Nano Ojas Multifunctional Repair Spray. It is a powerful and easy to use supertool that expedites skin repair on a broad spectrum of skin issues. The results are nothing less than impressive. It is my #1 go-to for all things skin related, including incisions and scars. This regenerative plant-based nanoformula instantly relieves pain and soothes skin discomfort associated with rashes, sores, burns, breakouts, growths, spots, warts, blisters, cuts, bites, minor wounds, stubborn skin problems, and itchy or painful irritations of all kinds. This water-soluble nanoemulsion dries quickly, leaves no residue, and helps restore the skin barrier quickly. It has become a part of my daily skincare routine. Spray it on your incisions or scars 3-5 times a day and you won’t be disappointed with the results.
- Support Stem Cell Production with my personal favorite product Stemregen, which works to restore the innate self-healing power of the body. This product is an unprecedented symphony of rare, ancient, unique plant extracts that fuel our innate healing power at the most primordial cellular level. It triggers the release of our own stem cells, unleashing our highest regenerative potential. Stem cells promote anti-aging effects, increased tissue repair, and health maintenance. I LOVE this product.
- Support breast health through daily self-breast massage using my favorite massage oil for breast health, Healthy Girls Breast Oil, which helps to balance, detoxify, soften breast tissue, stimulate your immune system, improve lymphatic circulation while it nurtures and protects. This product contains Jojoba Oil infused with a synergy of eight therapeutic essential oils: Lemon, Sweet Orange, Lavender, Geranium, Frankincense, Nerolina, Sweet Marjoram, and Rose damascene. Spray into hands and with a gentle stretching and relaxing motion, massage your breasts and underarm area daily once cleared by your plastic surgeon to do so.

Each time you have a significant emotional event or trauma, your body produces a unique cocktail of hormones, neurotransmitters, and emotions that can be stored within the cells. Your body remembers this specific blend and can be prompted to again release that unique combination of chemicals and emotions when presented with a trigger. This can create a positive or a negative experience, much like the smell of the perfume of a loved one creates a warm feeling inside or, conversely, a barking dog causes sweating or shaking in someone who was previously attacked.
Most of these imprints are stored deep within the subconscious memories of the cells, so we are unaware that they are draining our energy and directing us to detrimental and limiting beliefs and behaviors. Often, we do not know what the original event was or make the connection with how we were feeling at that time. We just feel the impact and imbalance of the chemicals and emotions flooding our systems and our feelings and behaviors suffer as a result.
We are all aware of the detrimental effect of long-term exposure to low-vibration emotions (anger, grief, resentment, loneliness) and stress hormones. Being able to identify and mitigate these negative cellular memories can be very helpful in our ability to move forward from the event and subsequent detrimental patterns and beliefs. This can be achieved whether we are consciously aware of them or not by reducing their impact on our health and wellbeing and freeing up that space for higher vibration thoughts and feelings (connection, love, trust, hope, joy).
With MBSR™ we are able to dive into a deeper view of each mental/emotional trauma to uncover the “hidden” emotions and limiting beliefs holding us back from mental, emotional, spiritual, relational, and even physical healing.
I have created a Post-Explant Surgery Support Bundle on my store (The Biohacking Zone) with all of the mentioned supplements in one nice little package for you at a 5% discount. You can also get a discount code for an additional 10% off your first order if you opt-in for my newsletter! Once you’ve signed up, the code will be sent to your inbox.
So, these are my TOP suggestions for supporting your body in recovering and healing after explant surgery that I have accumulated over the many years I’ve been supporting women through this difficult process.
